In short. Setting up an X-ray room goes beyond the equipment price: technology (analog or digital), components, space, shielding, electrical work, licensing and long-term maintenance all matter. Start with the exams and volume you expect; they drive the generator, tube, table and detector. This guide helps you reach the supplier conversation with a clear must-have list.

Analog or digital?
A digital room (DR or CR) processes and archives faster, offers better resolution, usually needs less dose and integrates with PACS. Today it is the recommended choice for almost any facility.
What your room needs
- Generator: high-frequency for better images and lower dose, sized for your workload.
- Tube: power and heat capacity matched to the number and type of exams.
- Table: fixed or floating, manual or motorized; motorized speeds up positioning.
- Bucky stand: for upright chest and extremity imaging; motorized for high volume.
- Detector: DR for real-time images; CR as a lower-cost transition.
- PACS: to store, view and share images.
- Radiation protection: lead-lined walls and doors, leaded glass window and PPE.
Installation and licensing
- Space: enough for the system, console, barriers and circulation.
- Shielding: reviewed and approved by a medical physicist or specialized engineer.
- Power: robust, stable supply; sometimes the electrical system needs upgrading.
- Climate: proper ventilation or air conditioning.
- Regulations: operating license, staff radiation-protection training and periodic inspections, per each country's rules.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the generator and tube, detector, table and stands, construction work (shielding, power, climate) and the maintenance contract. At Solmedic every configuration is price on request. Financing from 3 to 12 months (max. 24) with a minimum 40% down payment, subject to approval.
