In short. Choosing a C-arm starts with one question: which procedures will you use it for? That drives the image intensifier size, generator power and software package. Then make sure the refurbished unit is good: refurbishment steps, photos and image tests before shipping, and an inspection on arrival. This guide helps you reach the supplier conversation with a clear must-have list.

Which C-arm do I need?

  1. Digital detector or image intensifier (II): the refurbished market is almost all II-based systems, which remain the standard of care with high-quality images.
  2. II size: 9" for orthopedics, pain, general surgery, pacemakers and sports medicine; 12" for vascular and neurovascular, as it covers more anatomy per shot.
  3. Magnification modes: 9" systems magnify more, useful for delicate procedures.
  4. Generator: more power for larger patients, lateral injections and vascular work; extremities need less.
  5. DICOM: to send images to the network and PACS; older models may need an add-on.

How to make sure you get a quality C-arm

  • Ask freely: request the list of refurbishment steps (initial evaluation, decontamination and patient data removal, cosmetic restoration, component replacement and calibration).
  • Pre-shipment inspection: photos of the whole unit and the serial label, plus monitor photos with an empty field and with a metal object in each magnification mode.
  • On-site inspection: check the inventory against the contract (footswitch, printer, spacer) and repeat the image tests.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the model, II size, software package, accessories (printer, DICOM box, surgical table), lead shielding and PPE, the physicist visit and the service plan. At Solmedic every configuration is price on request. Financing from 3 to 12 months (max. 24) with a minimum 40% down payment, subject to approval.
